Abstract
Cotton broad and mercerized broad fabrics were treated with cellulase enzyme in different treating methods and dyed with two direct dyes. C. 1. Direct Red 2 and C. 1. Direct Blue 1. before or after enzyme treatment. Also the dyeing behavior of C. 1. Direct Red 2 by the continuously-treated cotton fiber was investigated. The strength retention of mercerized cotton broad appeared higher than cotton broad at the same weight loss. In addition, bending rigidity decreased by enzyme treatment. The color depth of cotton broad and mercerized broad dyed with direct dyes before or after enzyme treatment decreased with the treating time. The enzyme treatment did not affect dyeing rate for cotton fibers, whereas it decreased slightly the apparent affinity of dye.
