Abstract

Poly(arylene etherketone) copolymers, modified by introducing bulky groups into the linking units of aromatic rings of polyetheretherketone. were prepared and their physical properties were investigated. The copolymers were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4.4'-difluorobenzophenone with hydroquinone(HQ) and second diol component. hexafluorobisphenol A(HFBA). 10 species of the copolymers were prepared in various ratios of HQ to HFBA. The btnzophenone-HFBA units in the copolymers hindered the benzophenone-HQ units from crystallization and were located in the amorphous regions of the copolymers Through the analysis of activation energies and frequency factors for the thermal decomposition of the copolymers. Thermal stability and rates of thermal decomposition were found to have no correlation with the copolymer composition.
