Abstract

Warmth retaining materials such as aluminum, ceramic, ZrC, ZrO2. and TiO2 powder were added to polyurethane(PU) coating solution for water vapor permeable/waterproof coating to improve the warmth retaining property of nylon fabric. The presence of the warmth retaining materials decreased water vapor transmission and peeling strength of the coated fabric, but it increased water entry pressure. The warmth retaining property of the coated fabric measured by constant temperature method was improved with all the materials used. ATR-lR analysis of the coated fabrics suggest that, among the materials used, far-infrared irradiation is highest with aluminum containing samples and lowest with ceramic containing samples. The surface temperature increase of the fabric containing ZrC under constant Lux was remarkable even at low contents compared with simple PU coated fabric. Aluminum and ZrO2 were somewhat effective in increasing surface temperature but ceramic and TiO2 mere ineffective.
