Abstract

Treatment of benzal chloride, alcohol, $K_2CO_3$, and a catalytic amount of $Co_2(CO)_8$ at $80^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours under 30 atm of CO gave the corresponding alkyl phenylacetate in good yield.
