Abstract
High-modulus, high-strength POM and PET films were produced by MISELA(micro-wave selective absorption) drawing. The influence of ambient temperature on the maximum modulus and strength has been examined. The properties of POM and PET films drawn by MISELA and conventional drawing were investigated by using tensile testing, X-ray diffracto-metry, DSC, and DMA. The highest Young's modulus and tensile strength of POM and PET films drawn by MISELA drawing were 62, 7.8 GPa and 1.1, 0.32 GPa at their maximum draw ratios, respectively. The mechanical properties were improved by conducting the MISELA drawing, due to the increased orientation in the amorphous regions. MISELA drawing seems to be an effective method in producing highly-oriented polymer films, especially in orienting the chain molecules in the amorphous regions.
