Abstract
Diamine monomers which have easily rotatable ether lingkage, 1,4-bis(4-aminophe-noxy) benzene and 4,4'-bis(4-aminophenoxy) biphenyl were synthesized and identified by IR spectra, iI-NMR spectra and elemental analysis. Aromatic polyamides were synthesized by low-temperature solution method using above monomers with terephthaloyl dichioride for homo-polymerization, and using above monomers and p-phenylene diamine with terephthaloyl dichloride for copolymerization. 3A'-Diaminodiphenyl ether, 3,3'-diaminodiphenyl ether, and 4,4'-dia-minodiphenyl ether were also polymerized by the same method to aromatic polyamides for comparison. For all the polymers synthesized, viscosities in 0.5 g/dl sulfuric acid were measured and various characterization such as solubility test for various organic solvents, thermogravimet-ric analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis were carried out. Liquid crystalline textures in sulfuric acid solution were observed through polarized microscope and optimun copolymerization ratio for direct spinning from as-polymerized solution were found. Tensile test of fibers obtained from direct spinning were carried out.
