Texturing and Dyeing of PET in the Presence of Solvents

초록

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) filaments (POY) were treated with aqueous solutions of dimethylformamide, dioxane, aud tetrachloroethane(TCE) To observe the possibility of solvent texturing of the PET at relatively low temperatures physical properties such as serinkage, tensile properties, density, and X-ray diffraction, of the PET treated with solvent were measured. Also, design experiments were performed in the aqueous solutions of dioxane and TCE to see the effects of the solvents on dye diffusion in the PET Shrinkage decreased with an increase in concentration of the organic solvents in aqueous solutions, but crystallinity increased. Even at low concentration of TCE(0.1%), the crystallinity of the PET increased at a high rate. The rate of growth of the PET crystal increased with an increase of the concentration of the solvent in the aqueous solutions. Tensile strength of the samples treated increased with solvent concentration increased, but the extension at break decreased. When the aqueous solutions of dioxane and TCE were chosen for the dyebath, the absolute values of dye uptake were fairly high and increased with time even at low temperatures (50~7$0^{\circ}C$). From these results possibility of one batch process i.e., solvent dyeing and solvent texturing in the same bath is expected.
