Abstract
Bis (o-amino ketone) compound, 1,3-bis(3-benzoyl-4-amino phenoxy) benzene, which has ether-linkages and the m-phenylene unit as a kink was synthesized and polymerized with four diacetyl monomers -1,3-diacetyl benzene, 1,4-diacetyl benzene, 4,4r_diacetyl biphenyl, and 4,4'-diacetyl diphenylether-via the acid-catalyzed Friedllinder quinoline synthesis method. Poly- merization was carried out in the mixed solution of mono-/di-m-cresyl phosphate under nitrogen atmosphere at 40'1. The obtained semirigid polyquinolines exhibited excellent heat-resistance of which the initial decomposition temperatures (Td) were at around 550'E and the glass transition temperature (Tg) were observed in the range of 190∼ 235℃. Tg's of the polymers containing one flexible unit or a kink unit were 30∼40℃ lower than analogous polymers, respectively. These polyquinoliness were soluble in chloroform, sym-tetrachloroethane, m-cresol, and other common organic solvents.
