Abstract

Fabrics having superior balance of strength and durable press performance were prepared by new improved procedures and compared with conventionally treated fabrics to aid in understanding the mechanism of performance improvements. Accessibility measurements such as moisture regain, dye sorption, and internal surface area were done. Also, in order to gain insight of microstructural changes, pore size distribution measurement, TG-DTA analysis, and x-ray diffraction analysis were made. The results indicated that various shape of pores and new surface were formed during in-situ polymerization of N-methylolacrylamide in WF and SF samples. Thermal stability of the treated samples was decreased and WF and SF samples decomposed without production of levoglucosan. Crystalline structure and region were not changed by the chemical treatment.
