Abstract

The electrically conducting Nylon 6/PVA/polypyrrole composite films were prepared by polymerizing pyrrole vapor in Nylon 6/PVA blend films impregnated with ferric chloride as an oxidant. After polymerization of pyrrole for six hours, the conductivity of composite films prepared with 20-30 wt.% of ferric chloride increased from 10-12-10-13s/cm to 10-3-10-4s/cm. The conductivity of composite films increased with increasing the concentration of ferric chloride and the weight fraction of PVA, but the influence of PVA on the conductivity was not significant. The stability of conductivity to ambient air exposure was excellent, i.e. less than one order of magnitude drops on one month exposure.
