Abstract

In order to obtain polyacrylonitrile having $\beta$-cyclodextrin ring as an end group, acrylonitrile was polymerized in aqueous solution of ceric ammonium nitrate and $\beta$-cyclodextrin has been carried out. From the kinetic results, it was concluded that Ce(IV) formed a complex with $\beta$-cyclodextrin and the polymerization was initiated by a radical species produced on $\beta$-cyclodextrin by disproportionation of redox pair of Ce(IV)-$\beta$-cyclodextrin complex.
