Uniformity of Crossling Distribution in Durable Press Finished Cotton Fabrics Using Foam Application

Abstract
The distribution of crosslinks throughout fabric was studied in relation to foam application of DMDHEU. The foam generator of experimental scale was specially designed and prepared. The crosslink uniformity was measured with a negative Direct Red 81 staining technique. The available size and size distribution of the bubbles were obtained in this device. Mercerized fabric increased physical properties but showed lower uniformity of crosslink distribution than unmercerized fabric. The uniformity of crosslink distribution was improved when a mixed catalyst system(metal salt/citric acid) was used in place of single catalyst(magnesium chloride hexahydrate).
