Abstract

In the light of the properties of colloids in the surface of disperse and dispersion, there exist specific characters such as adsorption or electric double layer, which seems to play important roles in determining the physiochemical properties in the finishing system. Electrostatic bonding, hydrogen bonding and van der Waals adsorption are common in dyeing as well as covalent bonding. Particularly, electrostatic bonding is premised on the existence of ionic groups in fibers. The present study was aimed to clarify the isoelectric point through the role of electric double layer by ion in amphoteric fibers with different ionic effects under different pH. The main results obtained are as follows. 1. The isoelectric point of amphoteric fibers are greatly influenced by the ionic atmospheres of measuring solutions. 2. The isoelectric point of nylon moves to lower pH region as the heat treatment temperature arises. 3. When the scale of wool is removed, the isoelectric point shifts to somewhat higher pH region. 4. Remaining of sericin on silk lowers the isoeletic point than that of fibroin itself.
