Studies on the Durable Softening Water Repellents of Acrylic Types -Reaction Products of Fatty Carbamide, Wax and Acrylic Copolymer-

Abstract

Wax type emulsifier, polyoxyethylene octadecyl ether(POOE), polyoxyethylene octadecyl amine(POOA) and PEG-400 tall oil ester(PTOE) were synthesized. Octadecyl methacrylate-2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer(ODMA) as a mother resin of acrylic type water repellent was synthesized and quaternized(ODMAC). To give promoted softening effect and water repellency, fatty carbamide(DACD) and its quaternized compound(DACDC) were prepared. These compounds were also identified by elemental analysis, IR spectoroscopy and the molecular weight measurement. Some durable softening water repellents(PADWC) were prepared by blending waxes with repellents as mentioned above and the water repellency of some fabrics treated with PAD WC have been investigated, which revealed that durable soft and washable water repellency is attainable with these water repellents.
