Abstract

Quaternization of various substituted pyridines with the copolymer of chloromethylestyrene and styrene has been studied by means of electronic onductivity method in N,N'-dimethylformamide solution at 60, 65 and 70℃. It has been revealed that the rate of quaternization of N atom in pyridine ring with the copolymer increases with the increasing tendency of electron donating ability of the substituent. These results were also discussed in terms of activation parameters, isokinetic relationship and Hammet plot.
