Abstract

Ethylacrylate was graft copolymerized onto wool by using lithium bromideammonium peroxydisulfate as an initiator. The graft copolymerization was carried out by varying the concentrations of initiator and monomer, the temperature, and the solvents including methyl cellosolve, methanol, and formic acid. It was found that there was a critical solvent concentration causing the supercontraction of wool and repressing the graft copolymerization in water-formic acid system. On the other hand, methyl cellosolve and methanol promoted the graft copolymerization of ethylacrylate by accelerating the decomposition of lithium bromide and ammonium peroxydisulfate.
