Crystallization Kinetics of Miscible Polymer Blend -Polyethylene and Atactic Polypropylene Blend-

Abstract

Crystallization kinetics of polyethylene(PE) from the blends of PE and atactic polyproplene(APP) were investigated. The isothermal crystallizations were determined with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The Avrami equation was employed to analyze the isothermal crystallization kinetics at three different temperatures, 105$^{\circ}C$, 108$^{\circ}C$ and 111$^{\circ}C$. It was found that the value of Avrami constant(k) increased markedly with APP concentration. However, Avrami exponent(n) decreased considerably as APP concentration increased. It is suggested from the results that, for these blends, the crystallization proceeds by heterogeneous nucleation.
