Abstract

Dyeing experiments were performed for a kinetic study of dyeing of nylon 6 with reactive dyes. Dyes used were C.I. Reactive Red 22 and C.I. Reactive Blue 2. Acid dyes containing the same chromogen, C.I. Acid Red 5 and C.I. Acid Blue 25, were also used for comparing the results. Time-exhaustion curves were determined at varous pH and temperatures. Rate constants, diffusion coefficients and activation energies were also calculated. Hill's equation was used. to calculate the diffusion coefficients of acid dyes. In case of reactive dyes, however, Danckwert's equation was applied. It was found that diffusion coefficients of reactive dyes were smaller than those of acid dyes within experimental temperature range. With deceasing pH value, diffusion coefficients of C.I. Reactive Red 22 were increased, and those of C.I. Reactive Blue 2 were not increased However, rate constants of C.I. reactive Reactive Red 22 were decreased, and those of C.I. Reactive Blue 2 were increased with the decrease of pH. Activation energies of diffusion of reactive dyes showed to be larger than those of acid dyes. Activation energies of reaction of C.I. Reactive Red 22 found to be larger than those of C.I. Reactive Blue 2.
