Abstract

The degrees of crystallinity and orientation, tensile strength and intrinsic viscosity of domestic nylon 6 and polyester filaments for tire cord annealed with dry and steam heat treatments were examined to investigate the change in fine structure and physical properties with treating conditions. It is found that the tensile strength and intrinsic viscosity of steam heated filaments decrease remarkably with the increase in temperature as compared with that of dry heated ones. The degree of crystallinity increases with increasing temperature and the increasing tendency of steam heated filaments is larger than that of dry heated ones. The degree of orientation shows almost no change under tension but decreases markedly under tensionless, and it is thought that this acts as a main factor for the decrease in tensile strength.
