Interaction between Poly (vinyl alcohol) and Congo Red in Aqueous Solution

Abstract

A visible spectrophotometric method of measuring the amount of Congo Red(CR) bound in poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-CR complex formed by the molecular interaction in aqueous solution has been investigated. The method was developed under the condition that the relation between CR concentration and optical density at the wave lenght of maximum absorption either in the absence or presence of PVA shall be obeyed to Lambert-Beer's law. It was found from the calculated values of free and bound CR that Klotz's equation could be applicable to (PVA/CR) mixture (PVA-CR) complex.
