A Study on color Fading Effect of Blue Standards under Various Light Sources

Abstract

All the light sources for light-fastness test have the purposes more close to daylight. But the textiles fading capacity in daylight exposure is not even, because each area's climate conditions are different. Therefore the selection of the tester would be important. In this study, blue standards were exposed under daylight on exposure table from April to September in 1978 and compared with faded samples (L2-L6) of carbon-arc lamp and xenonarc lamp. Samples were made for monthly fading and color changing point by three light-sources. For color measuring, color-eye data was converted into CIE tristimulus values. And again it was analyzed by the color difference according to Adams chromatic values formula. The conclusions which could get here as follows. 1) the changing of tristimulus values of faded Blue Standards occurred in XCIE and YCIE mainly and ZCIE has a little. 2) Below L4 has rapid fading and over L5 has slow fading in monthly fading slopes on plotting. 3) In Seoul, xenon-arc lamp will be very desirable in which its fading and range of dominant wavelength are similar to those of daylight if we reduce its exposure time for comparatively strong light-intensity.
