A Study on the Modification of Polyacrylonitrile

To improve the hygroscopicity and the antistatic electricity of polyacrylonitrile, acrylonitrile monomer was copolymerized with $\beta$-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, $\beta$-hydroxyethyl methacrylamide, and the condensate of methacryloyl chloride-polyethylene glycol monostearate. Modified polyacrylonitrile with $\beta$-hydroxyethyl methacrylate improved the hygroscopicity but the solubility of modified polymer in dimethyl formamide was getting poor. Modified polyacrylonitrile with the condensate of methacryloyl chloride-polyethylene glycol monostearate showed good antistatic electricity.
