Abstract

The adsorption of binary mixtures of acid dyes by nylon 6 fiber and the diffusion of binary mixtures of disperse dyes into nylon 6 film were examined. Dyes used are C.I. Acid Red 1, C.I. Acid Blue 45, C.I. Acid Red 88, C.I. Disperse Orange 3, C.I. Disperse Red 15, and 1, 4-dihydroxy anthraquinone. The adsorption ratio of acid dyes by nylon 6 fiber in a mixture of compatible dyes are constant with decreasing pH of dyebath, but incompatible ones are decreased with decreasing pH. Diffusion coefficients of dyes into nylon 6 film used in a mixture of chemically dissimilar are found to change little in comparison with single dyeing, while diffusion coefficients of dyes of similar structures(Red 15 and 1, 4-dihydroxy anthrqquinone) are decreased appreciably. It is suggested that the latter effect is due to the interaction between two dyes in the fiber substrate.
