Abstract

Two moles of 1-stearoyl aminoethy1-2-heptadecylimidazoline(SHI), 1-stearoyl bis (aminoethyl)-2-heptadecyl imidazoline (SDI) or 1-stearoyl tris (aminoethyl)-2-heptadecyl imidazoline (STI) reacted with one mole to three moles of urea to form one mole of 1,2-disubstituted imidazolineurea condensate such as SHI-urea (SHIU), SDI-urea (SDIU) or STI-urea (STIU) by condensation in reaction much like that of 1,3-distearoy1-6, 8-bis (2-hydroxyethyl)-1,3,6,8-tetraaza cyclodecane-2, 7-dione (DDTC), which has been synthesized as the model compound prior to the dimerization. SHIU, SDIU and STIU were characaterized by means of IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and molecular weight measurement. Quaternized SHIU (SHIUC), SDIU (SDIUC) and STIU (STIUC) were formed by combination of SHIU, SDIU and STIU with epchlorohydrin, respectively, and the hydrated to produce SHIUCW and STIUCW.
