Abstract

To check the photodegradating properties of oxime polymers which are containing the weak N-O bond in the main chain, polyoxime esters and polyoxime urethanes have been synthesized from dioximes and dibasic acid derivatives or disocyanates, and their structures have been ascertained by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. These polymer films were photolyzed by using a high-pressure mercury lamp(Hitachi-SHL-100UV-2) at a distance of 15 cm and the photodegradation of the N-O bond was checked by use of ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy. The photochemical behavior of the oxime polymers was compared with that of corresponding model compounds. Among various polyoxime esters and polyoxime urethanes, oxime polymers from dimethylglyoxime and hexamethylene diisocyanate or diphenylether diisocyanate, and also oxime polymer from cyclohexanedione dioxime and diphenylether diisocyanate have good film forming properties and have been photodegraded rapidly by UV irradiation. Upon UV irradiating these polymers, there were obtained photolyzed polymers of low molecular weight, of which the molecular weights were estimated by observing the viscosity changes. On the other hands, syntheses of polyurea and polyurethanes of which partly containing N-O bond in the main chain were attempted, but owing to poor solubility of these polymers, authors couldn't check the photochemical behavior of them.
