Abstract

The effect of thickeners on dye concentrations of fibres in printing of cellulose by triazinyl reactive dyes were investigated. Print pastes were prepared with sodium alginate and starch. The Kubelka-Munk's equation was used for determining the colour yield. The sodium alginate always gave a better colour yield than the starch. It was also observed that the quantity of starch in print pastes and yield of colour were almost inversely proportional. Generally, the loss of yield as time passed were observed, however the stability of print pastes might depend upon the types of dyes. Dichlorotriazinyl Print Pastes were less stable on storage, apparent loss of yield was visible after 3 days, and remarkably after 10 days both sodium alginates and starches.
