기존 출시된 가전제품용 리모컨들은 각각의 기능만을 수행하는 것으로 제한되어 있다. 어느 경우에는 리모컨의 수가 너무 많아서 어디다 놓았는지 잃어버리는 경우도 있다. 본 논문에서는 적외선 리모컨을 사용하는 이유와 리모컨의 송신, 수신 방법 리모컨의 변조방식을 연구하였다. 실험은 ATmega128을 이용하여 LCD를 보면서 가전제품(TV, 에어컨 등)을 제어한다. 결과적으로 리모컨 수를 줄이고 하나의 리모컨으로 전자제품을 다루고 나아가 가정 내에 있는 모든 전자 제품을 다룰 수 있기를 기대한다.
