Development of the basic module for marine environmental database by using ENC data

Abstract

This paper describes a method for making 3D marine environmental database of ship handling simulator by using electronic nautical chart data. While developing simulator system, we had to digitize the nautical paper chart in order to obtain the basic data including coastline, navigational aids and so on. In our method, we can get easily exact data necessary to make the database of visual presentation system from electronic nautical chart data that is coded according to S-57 transfer standard of IHO.

이 연구는 전자해도(ENC) 데이터를 이용한 현실감 있는 3차원 해상환경 데이터베이스를 제작하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 종이해도로부터 해안선, 등심선, 수심 및 항로표지와 같은 정보를 수작업으로 digitizing해서 얻는 기존의 방법에 비해, 본 연구에서 제안하는 방법은 각종 정보를 전자해도 데이터로부터 직접 얻을 수 있기 때문에 기존의 방법보다 손쉬고 정확하게 해상환경 데이터베이스를 제작할 수 있다. 또한 국제수로기구(IHO)의 표준규격(S-57)에 따라 제작되어 전 세계적으로 통일된 규격을 가지고 있는 전자해도 데이터를 이용함으로써 국내 및 외국항에 대한 데이터베이스를 정확하게 제작할 수 있으며, 해상환경 데이터베이스 제작 이외에도 해도의 경ㆍ위도 정보를 사용하는 여러 연구 분야에 유용하게 사용될 것으로 판단된다.
