Abstract
The growth of ultrathin platinum films on single crystal cobalt surfaces is studied by Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED). Annealings of these films induce the formation of surface alloys on top of which cobalit layers can be deposited, leading to epitaxial Co/Pt/Co sandwiches. AES shows also that a magnetic moment is induced on the Pt atoms.
